August 11, 2021 - Fall Season RTC Update

Fall 2021 RTC Update

Our Fall 2021 competitive season is now in full-swing. As we make preparations for start of Alabama State League, NL, and DPL seasons and the kick-off of our Rec program, we continue to monitor the developing situation with the COVID-19 variant and its potential impact to our club.

As the number of cases continue to rise in our state and Madison County, we want to keep our community safe and keep our teams on the field by limiting the disruption that COVID-19 has on our season. We have updated our Return-to-Competition (RTC) guidelines. Please review the RTC update by clicking HERE.

We will continue to remain flexible and adjust our RTC guidelines as needed throughout the season. All updates will be posted to the NASC COVID-19 page. You can view the page by clicking HERE.

While masks are not required, we encourage everyone to demonstrate and exercise personal responsibility regarding COVID-19 to ensure a safe playing and training environment for everyone involved by doing the following:

  • Adhering to NASC’s amended RTC guidelines
  • Conducting a Self Screen prior to attending or participating in a practice, game, scrimmage, friendly, or other NASC hosted or sanctioned event
  • Staying home if you are sick or have any COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms
  • Reporting player exposure to or infection of COVID-19 to NASC
    • Notify your Coach and/or the NASC Admin (admin@northalabamasc.org) if you have been exposed to or infected with COVID-19. This allows the NASC team to follow-up with you directly and determine the appropriate next steps regarding the isolation from soccer activities for the player, team, coach, or others that may be affected as well as notification of any affected opponents.
  • Following the RTC process for returning to play after exposure to or infection of COVID-19

NASC continues to recommend the following while at the fields:

  • Practicing good hygiene such as handwashing, using hand sanitizer, and covering coughs and sneezes
  • Unvaccinated individuals to wear a mask or facial covering when not actively participating in a NASC sanctioned event or activity
  • Social distancing from persons of different households
  • Wearing a mask or facial covering when you are not able to social distance from persons of a different household
  • Avoiding hugs, high-fives, handshakes, and fist bumps
  • Not sharing food or water

Please follow local protocols for games and events that your team attends outside of Madison County as they can differ by city, county, and state.

Thank you for doing your part to ensure our community remains safe and our players can be on the field!

Create a Positive Game Day Environment
Soccer is meant to be a positive experience for everyone involved. Please remember to create a positive and safe game day experience for everyone: players, coaches, referees, parents, and spectators. Make sure your feedback to the players from the sideline is encouraging and positive and never negative. Focus on comments like great hustle, good effort, great idea, and way to work. Avoid comments like run faster, you should've been there, or that was your fault. Never make negative comments about your player, other players, your team, or the opposing team.

Let the coaches handle the coaching and feedback to the players during the game. Be there to cheer on, lift up, and support your player and your team.

When you are attending a game - please remember:

  • The players are KIDS.
  • The referees and coaches are HUMAN.
  • It's just a GAME.
  • NO college scholarships are being handed out today.
  • Be RESPECTFUL.

Thank you to everyone in our soccer community for your continued support and assistance to ensure we have a successful season. Let's FINISH STRONG!

August 5, 2020

August 5, 2020

With preseason team camps concluding and fall practice in full swing, we have now entered Return-to-Play (RTP) Phase 3 - our Return-to-Competition (RTC) Phase. We have developed RTC guidelines that govern how North Alabama SC will operate on game-days.

These RTC guidelines are an extension of our previously developed and communicated RTP guidelines. The RTC guidelines provide information on how we are creating a safe competition and game-day environment focused on ensuring the health and well-being of everyone involved with North Alabama SC soccer. The RTC guidelines include details for the following:

  • Self-Screening
  • Pre-Competition
  • During Competition
  • Protocols for Game Related Activities
  • Roles for Players, Coaches/Staff, Parents, Spectators, and Referees
  • Post-Competition
  • Enhanced Field Layout
  • Returning to Competition
  • Resources

Click the button below to review and download the North Alabama SC RTC Guidelines.

Our RTP and RTC guidelines will be adjusted, modified based on updates from the State of Alabama, CDC, ADPH, USYS, ASA, and local agencies and as needed to ensure the health and safety of our North Alabama SC soccer community.

Parents – We understand everyone’s situation is different and unique regarding when they may be comfortable or able to return-to-play or return-to-competition. If you are not comfortable with your child returning to play or competition now, DON’T. Return when you and your child are ready. You decide when to return to play and competition. Please be assured that we are here to make sure your child can return to soccer on their own timeline and that they will have a place to play when they do.

We must continue to work together and follow all the rules to ensure we can provide a safe and healthy playing environment for everyone involved with North Alabama SC soccer. The RTC guidelines do not replace the existing RTP guidelines. Please continue to follow the RTP guidelines for self-screening, pre-session, session, and post-session activities including coach, parent, and player responsibilities.

Note – On July 29, 2020, Governor Ivey issued an amended Safer-at-Home Order that extended the statewide face cover requirement through August 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

July 15, 2020

July 15, 2020

Governor Ivey announced today that the Safer-at-Home Order has been amended to include a statewide face mask order. This face mask order takes effect on July 16, 2020 at 5:00 PM and is currently set to expire on July 31, 2020.

What does this mean for North Alabama SC?
Scheduled Club activities remain unaffected as the statewide face mask order has an exception for individuals participating in athletic activities as described in the Safer-at-Home Order. We will continue to follow our Return-to-Play (RTP) guidelines to ensure a safe playing environment for our players. Coaches are required to wear face coverings at all times. Players are required to wear masks to and from their soccer sessions and are provided a designated sideline player station to ensure they maintain social distancing when not actively participating in a soccer activity.

RTP Guidelines
Our RTP guidelines already met the statewide face mask order; however, the Session/Activity section was updated to provide additional clarity that a face mask is required by parents and spectators that choose to leave their vehicle to view club soccer activities. Anyone not directly involved in the session/activity is not permitted on the field during soccer activities. Parents and spectators are permitted to watch sessions/activities from outside of the fields while wearing a face mask and adhering to social distancing between households, City Parks and Rec guidelines for the facility, and the Safer-at-Home Order.

July 7th

The Madison County Health Officer issued a health order requiring face coverings in public places in Madison County to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This order takes effect today, July 7th, at 5:00 PM. The Madison County Face Covering Order is available for review at alabamapublichealth.gov/legal/assets/order-madisonchd-masks-070620.pdf

North Alabama SC's Return-to-Play (RTP) guidelines already meet the health order. Our coaches are required to wear face coverings at all times when leading/coaching sessions and interacting with our players. Players are required to wear masks to and from their soccer sessions and are provided a designated sideline player station to ensure they maintain social distancing when not actively participating in a soccer activity. While all players are required to have their own hand sanitizer and sanitize their hands before and after sessions, we have added an automatic hand sanitizer dispenser to the field entrance as a backup.

Everyone visiting the NASC office will continue to be required to wear a face covering upon entry.

Parents – We understand everyone’s situation is different and unique regarding when they may be comfortable or able to return-to-play. July 3, 2020

July 3rd

We have enjoyed being back on the field and seeing the joy that soccer brings to our players; however, none of this would have been possible without everyone working together to create a safe and healthy playing environment for all involved with North Alabama SC soccer. Thank you to everyone in our soccer community for supporting and following our Return-to-Play (RTP) guidelines.

On June 30, 2020, Governor Ivey issued an amended Safer-at-Home Order and extended it through July 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. The amended order did not affect permitted team and athletic activities. As planned, North Alabama SC will continue to operate in Phase 2 of our RTP guidelines through July 31, 2020. Phase 2 covers all summer camps, preseason team camps, and preseason team practices and related soccer activities scheduled to start on July 6, 2020. All summer camps and preseason soccer activities are voluntary.

The RTP Phase 3 update that will define protocols for spectators at games, tournaments, etc. will now be communicated by July 20, 2020. Phase 3 is scheduled to begin August 1, 2020.

May 29, 2020

May 29th

We know you are as excited as we are to return to soccer, but as soccer has inherent risks of communicable disease transmission, it is critical that our entire soccer community – players, parents, coaches, staff, volunteers, and spectators – adhere to a set of Return-to-Play (RTP) guidelines to ensure the safety and health of everyone involved with North Alabama SC soccer.

In response to the COVID-19 situation and the Alabama Safer-at-Home Order (amended on May 21, 2020), North Alabama SC has developed RTP guidelines that address critical return-to-play details that meet and, in certain instances, exceed the current Center for Disease Control (CDC), Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), US Youth Soccer (USYS), and Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) guidelines.

Our RTP guidelines define details for self-screening, pre-session, session, and post-session activities including club, coach, parent, and player responsibilities across three (3) phases:

Phase 1: May 24-June 14, 2020
Phase 2: June 15-July 31, 2020
Phase 3: August 1, 2020 (The RTP guidelines will be updated by July 1, 2020 with full Phase 3 details)

Parents – We understand everyone’s situation is different and unique regarding when they may be comfortable or able to return-to-play. If you are not comfortable with your child returning to play now, DON’T. Return when you and your child are ready. You decide when to return-to-play. Please be assured that we are here to make sure your child can return to soccer on their own timeline and that they will have a place to play when they do.

Participant Waivers
Note - Separate Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) and North Alabama SC participant waivers will be required for each player before they can return to participate in club hosted activities. The waivers and instructions on how to submit the waivers will be provided in a separate communication.

May 15, 2020

May 15th

We hope that everyone has been able to enjoy the warm weather while staying safe. We want to provide an update as we are two weeks away from the scheduled start of tryouts and evaluations.

Return to Play
Per the Governor's Safer at Home Order, all soccer activities remain suspended through at least May 22nd. However, we remain hopeful that the Executive Committee of the Governor's Coronavirus Task Force will recommend a phased return to play with the next update.

As we await the return to play update, the North Alabama SC team has been working on our return to play plan and phased approach to safely resume soccer activities. Our plan follows guidelines established by USYS and U.S. Soccer, includes protocols from other state soccer associations that have or will return to play before Alabama, and will adhere to State and local return to play guidelines and rules once they are announced. The plan has details and procedures that will be followed by all players, parents, coaches, and staff to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved with our club. We will share our plan as soon as final guidance and rules are provided by the State for return to play.

Huntsville FC is Now North Alabama SC

NPSL and WPSL
As previously communicated, the 2020 NPSL season is CANCELED. And, since our last club update, the WPSL has also decided to CANCEL its 2020 season due to COVID-19.

We support the decision of both leagues to cancel their seasons. While we are disappointed that our NPSL and WPSL teams will not see the field in 2020, we are already looking forward to and making preparations for the 2021 season.

Stay tuned for upcoming club updates regarding recreational program registration, new Jr. Academy program, coaching assignments, return to play information, and much more.

Thank you for your continued engagement, patience, and understanding. We will see you on the pitch very soon.

North Alabama SC

April 20, 2020

April 20th

We hope that you and your families are continuing to stay healthy and positive through this unique COVID-19 environment that has become our new normal. US Youth Soccer (USYS) announced that they have delayed their return to activity date until May 15, 2020. As a result, Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) extended its suspension of soccer activities to May 15, 2020.

As a member club of both USYS and ASA, all North Alabama SC and Huntsville FC on-field activity will also remain suspended through May 15th.

Competitive and Recreational Spring Seasons are CANCELED
Due to the uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 situation and the ever-changing schedule for a return to soccer activities, ASA canceled its spring state league season and the D1 and D2 State Cups. Unfortunately, we must follow suit and cancel the North Alabama SC and Huntsville FC competitive and recreational spring season including our second largest annual fundraiser - the Spring Classic tournament.

What Does this Mean for Our Club and Our Families?
Canceling the spring season never crossed our minds when we stepped onto the pitch in February. Like many of our families, we are working to navigate these uncharted waters and tackle the unique financial and operational challenges that have been presented during these unprecedented times.

Many of our families have asked about spring club dues. We are committed to our families and are preparing to apply each player’s spring club dues as a credit to their club account. Once applied, this credit can be used for any club program including summer camps and all competitive, recreational, and junior academy soccer programs for the fall 2020 or the spring 2021 season.

Our goal is to credit each player with as much of their spring club dues as possible - in some cases, this is expected to be 100%. As a non-profit small business that is supported by hundreds of families, local business sponsors, and fundraising, we are encountering many of the same burdens that others are facing in our small business community.

The easiest way explain our position is that our club has two types of expenses: operational and programming. Operational costs are year-round expenses associated to support staff, insurance, office lease, utilities, website, etc. and are incurred regardless of season. Programming costs are seasonal and directly associated to our players playing soccer: field usage fees, player registration fees, player insurance, team coaches, etc. Some of these costs may be recovered or prorated, some may not.

To achieve our goal to credit each player with as much of their spring club dues as possible, we are working with our partners to recover as much of our spring season programming expenses as possible. We have also taken steps to offset operational expenses and provide assistance to our coaching staff by taking advantage of grant programs offered through the CARES Act. Please understand the process to recover spring programming expenses and calculate each player’s credit will take some time. Our team is working to have all player credits applied by May 15, 2020.

We also understand that each family is facing their own challenges during these unprecedented times. If you need a refund of your spring club dues in lieu of a credit, please complete a refund request at Spring Refund Request.

Please contact us at admin@northalabamasc.org with any questions.

Tryouts and Evaluations
ASA has rescheduled tryout and evaluation dates based on a return to activity on May 15th. Tryouts for 13U and older age groups are scheduled for a June 1, 2020 start with evaluations for 9U-12U age groups scheduled for a June 8, 2020 start. These dates will adjust if the return to activity date changes.

Train at Home Program
In a separate communication we introduced our Train-at-Home program. The program kicked-off today and is designed to keep our players active while they are staying safe at home. This program introduces a Skill-of-the-Week with progressions that our players can practice and master at home. Learn more at  our NASC Train at Home web page and visit our YouTube channel at NASC YouTube to view the posted skill videos.

We are also planning to host Zoom meetings to allow our coaches and players to stay connected. The first Zoom meeting will be held on April 29th. Zoom meeting information will be communicated separately.

North Alabama SC and Huntsville FC

March 26, 2020

March 26th

We hope that you and your families are staying safe, healthy, and positive during these unprecedented times. We are reaching out today to provide an update on our competitive and recreational spring season and our NPSL and WPSL summer season.

Competitive and Recreational Spring Season
In accordance with public health guidance, the Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) has extended the suspension of all sanctioned soccer activities until at least April 15th.  This includes all practices, games, clinics, and all other Huntsville FC and North Alabama SC soccer activities and applies to all Jr. Academy, Recreational, and Competitive/State League teams and programs.

ASA has extended D1 and D2 State League through May 3rd and rescheduled the D1 and D2 Spring State Cup to May 15th-17th. We are following the lead of ASA and will extend our competitive and recreational (including Toddler Time) seasons accordingly to ensure the spring season can be completed based on an April 15th start date. More information will be communicated once the schedule changes are finalized.

Tryout and evaluation dates have also been delayed. Tryouts will start on May 18th for 13U and older and evaluations will start on May 25th for 9U-12U. Tryout and evaluation dates will adjust accordingly if the restart of soccer activities and/or the D1 and D2 State Cup dates slip. We will communicate tryout and evaluation registration information separately.

Be sure to follow us on social media. To keep our players active, we are posting a daily Cool Trick Challenge and will follow that with a Weekly Soccer Skills activity.

Note - The Spring Break Camp scheduled for March 31-April 2 has been CANCELED.

NPSL
Due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19 and the current league competition structure and schedule, the NPSL has announced the cancelation of the 2020 season.

While we are extremely disappointed that we will not be kicking-off our inaugural NPSL season with you this May as planned, we support and respect the NPSL’s decision as they must balance the needs and safety of all teams in the league.

Quoting Arnold – “We’ll be back!” North Alabama SC is committed to growing the game and providing our North Alabama soccer community with a higher level of competitive soccer. We will continue what we started 9-months ago to ensure a successful inaugural launch for the 2021 NPSL season.

WPSL
The WPSL has decided to delay the start of the 2020 season to May 29th and cancel the Regional and National Championships. This decision was made to allow for a full regular season and conference championships while still completing the season as scheduled on July 19th.

As of now, our WPSL home opener will be Saturday, May 30th at 5:00 PM vs. the Chattanooga Lady Red Wolves. We are currently working with the Southeast Conference to reschedule our three (3) games affected by the delay and will send out a full schedule announcement once these games are rescheduled.

The WPSL continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and will provide another update within the next 30-days.

We are extremely thankful for our strong and supportive soccer community and remain hopeful that we will be able to return to the pitch soon. Our team will continue to monitor the fluid COVID-19 situation and provide updates as they become available.

As our #1 priority remains the safety and health of our soccer community, please continue to do your part to stay safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding,

Huntsville FC and North Alabama SC

March 11, 2020

March 11th

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation has raised many questions and concerns at all levels of sports. Like many of you, we have spent the last few weeks learning more about COVID-19 and its impact. For us, that means understanding how it affects our club families, players, coaches, and soccer community and taking measures to keep you and our club healthy and safe.

These measures include:

  • Club staff and coaches following the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) prevention and hygiene guidelines
  • Coaches working to ensure players follow the same CDC guidelines on the field
  • Ensuring club staff and coaches stay home when they are sick and do not return to the office or field until they are symptom and fever free for a minimum of 24-hours
  • Limiting who handles shared training equipment during practice and games
  • Sanitizing/disinfecting all training equipment that comes in contact with players
  • Replacing high fives and handshakes with fist bumps or elbow taps

We also ask for your support to help with prevention by reinforcing the CDC guidelines with your player, keeping your player home when they are sick, disinfecting soccer equipment after each practice or game; especially shared items (such as soccer balls) that may be used by multiple players during practice or a game, and ensuring your player does not share water bottles or food at practices or games.

Many of our families have asked questions about out-of-town club related travel for state league games, friendlies, and tournaments. We are following the lead of the State of Alabama, Alabama Department of Public Health, Cities of Huntsville and Madison, and the Huntsville City and Madison City school systems to evaluate and consider any cancellations or reschedules of practices, games, or other club related activities.

As of today, there have been no reported cases in Alabama, the State of Alabama has not declared a state of emergency, and schools remain in session with extracurricular activities being held as scheduled. At this time, there will be no changes to our scheduled club soccer activities - practices will be held as planned and teams should plan to attend all scheduled local games, state league games, and in-state tournaments. Regarding out of state travel - as of now, teams should also plan to attend their scheduled out of state games and tournaments.

Our #1 priority is the health and safety of our Huntsville FC and North Alabama SC soccer community. Our club will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves and work with clubs located in or near affected areas that our teams have games scheduled with or are hosting tournaments our teams plan to attend in order to make game and tournament participation decisions that are in best health and safety interests of our club families and players. As always, families should make the best health decision for themselves and their player regarding travel to upcoming games and tournaments. Our club will always support your decision.

We will communicate updates as needed.

Stay Healthy

We recommend that everyone follow the CDC prevention and hygiene recommendations. Below are actions you can take to help reduce the spread of germs and viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20-seconds; especially after you have been in a public place, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, after using the restroom, and before you eat. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Do not share personal items such as water bottles, cups/glasses, eating utensils, etc.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneeze or cough or use the inside of your elbow
  • Stay home if you are sick - limit contact with others and do not return to work, school, or soccer activities until you are symptom and fever free for at least 24-hours
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items daily; including countertops, handles, phones, backpacks, soccer equipment, etc.
  • Replace handshakes and high fives with fist bumps or elbow taps
