1. What is the NPL?
The NPL is a national league providing an elite competition platform for top competitive youth soccer clubs in the U.S. Clubs must apply and meet competitive standards to be admitted to the league. NPL is the highest competitive level of soccer available to 13U-19U male players in North Alabama.
2. Why did NASC join the NPL?
We are always working to provide the best competitive and development opportunities for our players. The NPL provides that next level of consistent competition for our players allowing our players to play in a league against the top clubs in the Southeast.
3. Is NPL only for boys?
While the NPL offers programs for boys and girls, NASC has only joined the NPL boys program. Our top girls teams play in the DPL.
4. What clubs are in the South Atlantic Premier League?
The South Atlantic Premier League club teams are top-tier clubs in the Southeast. The 2021-2022 Boys Clubs were AFC Lightning, Barca Academy Charlotte, Charleston SC, Charlotte Soccer Academy, Hoover-Vestavia, SC Surf, Southern Soccer Academy (SSA), Tennessee United SC, Tormenta FC, Triangle United, United Futbol Academy (UFA), and Wake FC.
5. What age groups participate in the NPL?
North Alabama SC's 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U/19U teams will participate in NPL.
6. Can a NPL player also play High School soccer?
Yes, players can participate in NPL and High School soccer. There is no conflict between NPL and High School seasons for 15U and up.
7. Is there a spring season for the 13U & 14U?
Yes, the SAPL offers a spring season for 13U & 14U teams.
8. What are the dates for the NPL season?
The 2022-2023 schedule has not been set, but NPL teams will follow the existing club schedule with a pre-season team camp in mid-July and practice beginning in July following team camp. Regular season league games are expected to begin in mid-August and may run through December. Season ends with the playoff/showcase event in January. The 13U-14U teams have a Spring Season.
9. What are the required showcase events?
Based on the 2021 schedule, NPL teams kick-off the season with a North Carolina (NC) Showcase Event in early August and end with the South Atlantic Premier League (SAPL) Playoff event in Atlanta. The NC Showcase is a cross division event that counts toward the season standings. The SAPL Playoff event is held the 2nd weekend of January. The playoffs will determine what teams advance to the NPL regional playoffs for a chance to compete for a NPL National Championship in June.
10. What is the travel schedule?
The league schedule has not been announced, but teams can expect to play away games at conference opponent locations or neutral site locations. Travel may be anywhere from 3.5-4.5 hours away. Games will most likely be played in pairs with traveling teams playing one (1) game on Saturday and one (1) game on Sunday depending on distance traveled. The SAPL is split into a East and West Division to reduce travel. North Alabama SC will play in the West Division.
11. What is the training schedule?
Teams will train a minimum of three (3) times per week. Practices will be held in Huntsville.
12. Will college coaches attend games?
Yes, college coaches attend NPL games. The NC and Atlanta Playoff events are well attended by Division I, II, and III coaches.
13. What are the fees?
The fee schedule has not been set. Fee information will be communicated separately. NASC's Financial Assistance Program extends to the NPL. Click HERE to learn more about our Financial Assistance Program.
14. Who can participate?
All players from any club are eligible to play in the NPL.
15. Can I stay rostered with my current club and play NPL?
Yes, players can play for their current club and our NPL team as long as the player's home club is not a US Club team. NPL should be the player's 1st priority.
16. When are tryouts?
Tryouts for the 2022-2023 season will be held May 14-15, 2022. You can register for tryouts by clicking HERE.
17. Where will home games be played?
Home games will be most likely be played at John Hunt 1 & 2 with the Merrimack Turf Fields as the back-up location in case of rain.
